Figuring Out Your Wiring

Have you ever asked yourself the hard questions? Like "What about my life is successful, and have I truly reached my potential?"

Simon Sinek has a great TED talk about what he calls the Golden Circle.  After listening for the first time, it was clear that I truly didn’t know my next Why - something Simon discusses in his talk.  That I needed clarity as to the meaning of my second half of life, and that I wasn’t going to understand it until I understood how I was wired.

The biggest question for all of us is – How did God wire you and what did He wire you for?

First, we must understand that nowhere in the Bible does it say that God lined everybody up in order, having us think the same things or do things the same way.

We are each a masterpiece! (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)

I think we all come from different wiring.  One person has blue, green, and red wires. Another has pink, orange, and yellow ones. Once you get married, you then have two sets of different wires together under one roof figuring out those first couple of years.  Sometimes the different wires will shock you and you learn not to press that wire ever again.

Maybe what we need to do is live in the wiring that God uniquely gave us.  There are so many people who seem to be trying to live another person’s wiring.  What they find is wires they don’t understand and ones that don’t belong to them.  Sometimes I wonder if we are so confused about our Why, like Simon Sinek discusses, because we are wasting wires on old ideas, or we ignore our own wiring and instead figure out how we can replace them with someone else’s yellow for our pink.

To understand your why, to understand how God wired you, is to understand your core values.

Our core values are like our own personal compass. Once you know them, write them, and understand them, you won’t get lost anymore and you will begin to see your WHY in them.  This results in your actions aligning with your wiring. This puts us in a powerful position in our lives, because we know what to do, even if/when we are faced with a difficult decision. Basically, our core values are the heart of who we are and how we are wired.

My last question to you is have you done my workbook, Planning for a Life of Significance? It’s FREE!!  This workbook looks at your strengths, passions, and gifts.  From there you create a mission statement of core values.  I find that when you write things down, you begin to see your beliefs and your God-vision for your life tied together.  You find you, your uniqueness, your wiring, your Why - and your other questions will begin to be answered.  Start today!
